NYC Ferry, the New York City ferry service started just three months ago, has already moved more than a million people
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted last week, “We just broke one million rides on @ NYC Ferry….we’re changing the game for more New Yorkers.” The ferry service, serving Manhattan, Queens and Brooklyn – with the Bronx connection scheduled for next year, is off to a great success with astonishing demand from riders. The milestone was celebrated on NYC Ferries all day with half-off all brew beverages.
The New York Times reports,“The ferries are somewhat chic — each one is 86 feet long and looks more like a yacht than public transportation — and enjoyable to ride.”
The service was commenced in May with the first two vessels delivered only three months ago, and has already expanded to 14 vessels with more on the way. In fact, the service has proved so popular that on weekends some passengers have had to wait hours just to board.
“We’re ecstatic to celebrate reaching such a momentous millstone so quickly after launching the service for New Yorkers”, Junior Volpe, Director of Special Projects. “The ferry is definitely becoming the preferred way to travel across the East River.”
